Dina Toki-o shares some of the common ‘difficulties’ that people face in the developed world. #firstworldproblems

Life as we know it is oh so hard; there are so many trials and tribulations to face each day. The smallest problem can turn into the worst, making your day or even your week terrible.

But I guess that depends on the level of stubbornness and patience you have.

This weekend has been a terrible one for me. So many things have gone wrong; it’s unbelievable.

I went to bed last night with a face that ached from laughing too much during an evening with friends. We’d gone for a hearty meal at Nandos. Which was ‘okay’, to say the most. The choice of restaurants in my area is getting pretty boring. This morning, I woke up and went to reach for my phone to flick through the latest tweets. But I dropped it, smack-bang right on my face. That really woke me up. If that weren’t bad enough, I reach for my charger and – oh look – I can’t reach it. No surprises there. Apple has smart phones but utterly awful charger leads!

So here I am, attempting to get comfy for my morning lay in, but hail! One pillow leaves me feeling too sunken in, and two pillows are just too high! That’s my luck for you. Why can’t things ever seem to go right for me?

Forget this; I’m getting up and out of bed to see what other disasters this day will lead me to. Off downstairs for some tea and toast as usual. My favourite breakfast choice, yes that should cheer me up!

It goes fairly well, other than my knife ripping my toast to pieces because the melted butter  made it too soggy. Great. Well done, Dina, you’ve even managed to ruin the most important meal of the day. God why do I have it so hard?

That toast is useless to anyone now, so I’ll just throw it away before it ruins anyone else’s breakfast. I head for the biscuit tin to find breakfast treats to dunk into my warm cuppa. Finally something’s going right. I switch on the TV, flick through some channels and end up watching Judge Judy. Oh, this is a good episode! Some angry woman suing someone about something or other! I go for another biscuit bite when I notice it’s no longer in my hands. Where else could it be other than drowned into the murkiness of what was once my enjoyable cup of tea? Round of applause goes to me.

The post has arrived: bills, bills, and more bills. Wait, I have a pay cheque. That brings a smile to my face, finally. But now I have to make a trip to the bank. That means getting ready, which means having to find something to wear. I just can’t face deciding what to wear today. I have more clothes than hangers for goodness sake, and my wardrobe’s overflowing with things I don’t even know how to wear. Especially not now, because my stomach is poking out; I feel fat because I had too many biscuits for breakfast – oh, and that pizza for lunch yesterday. God, don’t remind me of the pizza. My first bite took the entire layer of cheese off. I threw it out and had to order another. When it arrived, the effort of getting up off the sofa and finding a scarf to throw on before I opened the door was just too exhausting an interruption to my relaxing day. Half an hour later I was full. So full, in fact, that I could hardly move – let alone sit comfortably. That was my afternoon spoiled.

This talk of food reminds me: I’m famished! Those biscuits did nothing. I want food from the back of the fridge, but it’s blocked by all the food at the front of the fridge. Should I waste my energy? No, I’ll look in the cupboards instead. Crisps? Yes, I could kill a couple of packets of those right now. Walkers or Pringles? I would go for Pringles but my hands are too big for the tube. So, here I am munching away at ready-salted Walkers instead, thoroughly enjoying them. I think I’ll go for a second packet. I’m finding it hard to open because my fingers are too greasy from the first. And I can no longer hear the TV because my crunchy chewing is too darn loud.

So thirsty. There’s literally absolutely nothing to drink. We never have any good beverages in my house, except a clean supply of water. I guess I’ll have to grab something on my way home from the bank. Probably a bottle of fresh water. Better get ready, then.

I head out, grabbing my purse as I shut the door. Oh great, now the zipper is stuck! I can’t close it because I have too much cash stacked inside. I am seriously having the worst day of my life!

The drive to the bank gives me time to reflect. It’s my birthday soon; I can’t wait, although I also can’t think of anything I actually want. Maybe my 200th pair of heels? That’ll be a moment to mark in my diary!

Here we are at the bank. I just need to find a parking space now. But there are no spaces available other than for the disabled badge holders. They always get better treatment; maybe I should break a leg or something. I’m going to be here for a good five minutes waiting for a space. What a waste of my day.

I finally get home after cashing my cheque; I spend the rest of my day working from home. Gosh, I hate working – it’s so hard, especially in the comfort of my own home. I hardly have any space in my three-bedroom semi. I wish I were rich, and then all my life’s dilemmas would be solved. This evening I’ll watch more TV and visit my family afterwards.

Phew, that was exhausting. I ate more food and laughed even harder than yesterday, so now my face ache will be incurable for at least another week.

As I settle down into bed for the night I surf the Internet for a while, catching up on programmes I’ve missed during my week. But I can’t get comfortable. It’s too warm because I’ve had the heating on all day. And now my Wi-Fi connection has stopped working, which means I have to get up and go all the way downstairs to reset it.

What a mission! Please God, make my life easier?
